flying by my side

today a scrubjay flew by my side
the entire time i took my chocolate lab. for a walk
it flew from tree to tree
and, occaisionally, chattered away at me.

it's not so simple to see
the people by my side,
but it would be nice.

People who come along side,
Though they ceaselessly do chatter,
Their hearts they do hide.

But there is One,
Whom if we do hear,
His heart He gladly does share.

Amen on the second part.

...I'm still thinking about the first.

Ryc: I agree heartily that people do not always hide their hearts---especially those whom we call "friend"---I was thinking of the word "people"--it usually makes me think of the general populace types whom we come along side of only briefly---such as your Scrubjay and will seldom take the time to become a friend... ...often we in our lives these days are so much on the move that we leave friends and family behind and can feel quite alone---that is one of the many times when our ONE Friend can be especially precious to us.
It has been my experience that very few whom we call friend will become what Anne of Green Gables fondly called a Bosom Buddy---someone who will share the deepest things of the heart and take the time and effort to really listen or reach into the inner recesses of their own heart and share. It does take time and effort and time seems to be such a precious commodity and the pace which we run at so often leaves us too exhausted to be able to put forth the effort to be a friend!
I value my friends very highly---I crave their company and there is little in this old world I treasure more highly than a good old fashioned heart to heart chat without regard to time. Mostly the craving goes unsatisfied for me because of the age old problem of time available and distance. I must say that the advent of E-mail and Blogging has been wonderful for me to be able to stay in touch at least a little and to meet a few new people---I love meeting new people! 8~) I hope you haven't minded my little ramble---I might add that I'm among the retired folk now and my wonderful wife of almost 33 years is expecting to be in a few short years...
My prayers for you shall continue especially with regard to your future!
